Shredders Painted

So though I have previous experience with tabletop gaming, I have never been very good at painting, so I decided to start on my Shredders. They are small and definitely not centerpiece models like either of my heavies or warlocks, and they seem simple enough. I also decided to try out a few different color schemes. So without further ado, here are the first painted models in my new legion!

For all of them, I drybrushed the base color (light blue for most, but I tried white on the fourth one), then highlighted the scales and horns with black. I tried out both Coal Black (a little more greenish) and Thamar Black (a bit glossy). I liked the light blue for flesh much more than the white, and the Coal Black gave a more natural feel than the Thamar Black, which I think I'll try out on weapons and other non-living things. Last but not least I went over the teeth in Morrow White; its much better for that than for flesh.

One things I noticed was the amount of detail in the figures - there are a lot more little features than in Warhammer! At first I tried to move around the scales, but that was way too hard. Drybrushing was much simpler, and it was really easy to do the raised up scales afterwards in black.

Looks like I won't get anymore painting done before my next gaming night, so look for a battle report coming soon!

Army purchased

I started playing a few weeks back, so the first few posts will be to help you guys catch up on what has happened since then. I bought a very basic Legion army from one of the guys that stopped playing them back in MK I at half off, so here is what I'm starting with:

Legion Battlegroup
-Lylyth, Herald of Everblight
-Carnivean
-4 Shredders
Saeryn, Omen of Everblight
Seraph
The Forsaken

They were all already primed, and Saeryn was painted, though her skin is flesh colored so I'll probably strip the model down and do that over. I also bought the Legion paint box from the game store I play at (Dragon's Lair in Bellvue, Washington), and I hope to try to get some painting in before my first game.

The Beginning

Hi guys,

Welcome to my blog! A bit of background: I obsess over games. All my life I have loved having something to think about when I'm riding the bus or bored in class, ever since 4th grade when I got into Pokemon cards. I eventually got into Magic, and even when my friends (and by extention, I) stopped playing games, I would still read about them, just to come up with fun and interesting ideas that I would never use. Thus when some friends introduced me to Warhammer 40k in high school, I jumped at it. Sadly, 40k was far from ideal; my friends rarely played because of how long games took and how difficult it was to get a full army together, and the army I chose, Dark Eldar, had not had a new release in nearly a decade. When I got to college, I was glad to find a new group to play 40k with, but the same problems persisted. When I graduated, I moved to Seattle, and found the local gaming groups played Warmachine/Hordes rather than Warhammer. Being the game freak I am, I had read the rules for the game, but had never played, and seeing as my 40k had been gathering dust for a while, I decided to transfer over to WM/H, going with Legion of Everblight. I hope to chronicle my exploits here - listing the games I play, the models I'm thinking about, and the painting I get done. Thanks for reading, and I hope I can provide some insight as a new player getting into the world of Privateer Press gaming!
